We've Optimised the World's Most Optimised Driver

The TaylorMade R9 Super Tri Driver is the TaylorMade Driver that has it all. With a possible 75 yards of left-to-right trajectory modification, moveable weight technology and a 460cc head, the R9 SuperTri offers adjustable, easy-to-hit distance off the tee.

First off, let’s look at the FCT, or Flight Control Technology. The adjustable hosel allows you to select one of eight different loft, lie and face-angle configurations so you can pick the look at address that best suits your swing. MWT, or Moveable Weight Technology is seen in these three weight ports which are interchangeable so you can adjust the center of gravity to promote a fade, neutral or draw bias. The sleek head design of the SuperTri reduces wind drag in the downswing to increase swing speeds which translates into more distance. Inside the clubhead, Ultra-thin Wall technology reduces the wall thickness of the clubhead, relieving enough discretionary weight to allow for the implementation of both FCT and MWT in a 460cc clubhead. Finally, like in other TaylorMade drivers, the R9 SuperTri features Inverted Cone Technology for a hotter clubface to increase energy transfer to the ball at impact.

The TaylorMade R9 SuperTri Driver features all of TaylorMade’s flagship game-improving technology into a driver that’s adjustable to the needs of players at any skill level.

Flight Control Technology (FCT)
TaylorMade's Flight Control Technology (FCT) allows the player to easily adjust a metalwood's loft, lie and face angle

FCT utilizes a metallic sleeve positioned over the tip of the shaft. The sleeve can be rotated into different positions, changing the characteristics of the head, by loosening the bolt that secures the sleeve and shaft into the clubhead.

Ultra-Thin Wall Technology (UTW)
Ultra-Thin Wall Technology is a casting process that allows thinner clubhead walls than found in most competitive drivers. The saved weight is critical to making the incorporation of MWT and FCT possible in certain TaylorMade metalwoods.

Movable Weight Technology (MWT)
Movable Weight TechnologyTM (MWT®), is discretionary clubhead weight that can be easily redistributed by the player to change the characteristics of the club.

By moving differently weighted cartridges, using a proprietary TaylorMade® wrench, into strategically positioned ports, CG location can be optimized per golfer.

Positioning more weight in the heel and less in the toe, speeds club head rotation during the forwardswing, which promotes a draw and/or reduces a slice.

Inverted Cone Technology (ICT)
The Inverted Cone is CNC-milled directly into the inner side of the clubface, resulting in a drastic variation in face thickness. ICT optimizes the way the clubface behaves at impact to create an expanded COR zone.

Inverted Cone Technology has been incorporated into every TaylorMade® driver since the R500 SeriesTM.

Questions on TaylorMade Mens r9 SuperTri Driver

  • From Chris at 9/06/11 12:41 AM
    • Could you please tell me the length of the shaft.
    • Hi Chis,

The shaft length of the TaylorMade r9 SuperTri Driver is 45.75".

This information is also listed under the "Additional Information" tab for each driver on the product pages.

      Kind Regards,

    • Very interested in buying this club. Two questions though:

      1. Is the TaylorMade wrench included with the club?

      2. Unsure which shaft flex option to choose (regular or stiff). I'm 25 years old. Hit a cheap ball roughly 210 to 230m with current entry level driver. Roughly 20 handicap, aspiring to lower that to 10. Have tried out TaylorMade Burner SuperFast, TaylorMade R9 460 and TaylorMade R11recently; all with regular shaft. Very impressed with all. Considering stiff flex as believe this will give me greater accuracy. My understanding is my swing speed should be the determining factor. What would you recommend?

      Regards,

      Kieran
    • Hi Kieran,

      Thanks for your enquiry.

The wrench is included with the SuperTri driver as well as the instruction manual (which graphically shows you how to use the different setting's for different flights)

Believe it or not, shaft flex (given that in the same model the shaft weight & length are generally the same) will not change the shot shape. (if you put a stiff & a regular SuperTri on a robot doing the same swing, the ball will land in the same place, at any swing speed) But the flex has a major influence on feel. For your current driving distance, we definitely would recommend the stiff flex shaft. You will not feel as much 'movement' in the shaft at address or in the back swing on your more aggressive swings.

Are you after a Right Hand Driver?
Because sadly, we are now out of stock in the SuperTri driver in RH. (It is the quick & the dead around here!) We still have them in left hand. What I can offer is an excellent condition trade-in SuperTri Driver (9.5deg, Stiff) which is $349 (still has 20month warranty balance on it) Otherwise have the R9 460's in stock.

One other club really worth considering is the Srixon Z-Star driver, which has even more adjustablilty than the SuperTri & comes with an iPhone fitting App, to make the process easier. The Z-Star driver is $599 (inc a Free 'Never Compromise Putter')

Feel free to phone me to discuss on: 09 358 5857 ext 2

  • From Lyall at 24/06/11 5:36 PM
    • Hi there.
I have just sold my R7.425 (Reg Flex) and are interested in the R9 super try. How would this compare to the R7 425 or the R9 460.
    • Hi Lyall,

The SuperTri is more adjustable (you can change loft & set it up for much more left or right, than the R7 425)
It also has a longer shaft, which creates more distance & the face produces better distance (through lower spin rates) on off centre hits.

Unfortunately, we are now out of stock in Righ Handed Super Tri drivers. (we do have good condition trade in ones, which are going for around $299)

We also have just had a price drop on the R11 Driver to $599, which is the best price in NZ on these.
The R11 lets you adjust loft while keeping the face neutral.

We also have the final stock of the R9 460's at $399.
The main difference between the SuperTri & the 460 is that the Super Tri has 3 movable weights, while the 460 doesn't.

Thanks for your enquiry - Hopefully we can get you into some new technology!

  • From Keith Sherson at 9/12/11 11:32 AM
    • Hi
Im a relatively new 35 handicap golfer (58 yrs old) with a problem "lefties" slice particularily off the tee. I intend to continue lessons to help the problem but am after a new driver and wondered what your recommendations would be on the SuperTri. Also wondering about shaft flex just to give me an idea before I give clubs a trial.
      Thanks
      Keith
    • Hi Keith,
We have all heard about driving for show & putting for dough, but if you are going OB of the tee it costs you a huge amount of shots & you constantly end up playing recovery golf, which is hugely frustrating.

Around 75% of club golfers battle with a fade (or in it's more severe form, a slice!)
The R9 SuperTri is a great driver to help this, as you can (easily) take the head of & set it on 'R' (right), which is closing the face, but increasing the loft. (to set up for a higher draw, to the right) This is the opposite to what happens when you close your grip on a normal driver, to avoid a slice, which can cause the ball to go right, but very low.
Additionally you can also use the 3 weights (1x heavy, 2 x light) to set up for more or less draw to the right.

The great thing about the SuperTri, is that as you improve, you can change settings (ie A put it on a halfway setting between 'N' (neutral) & 'R' (right) for a small draw. (it does come with graphical instructions explaining what each setting does)

Apart from the adjust-ability it is a forgiving driver that definitely goes long! It also produces low back spin, which can help to reduce sidespin (which causes a slice)

We would definitely suggest you guy it!

      Cheers

      Dane
